Mission

The NCEM User Executive Committee (NCEM-UEC) will conduct the regular business of the NCEM User Association (NCEM-UA).  The NCEM-UEC will meet at the time of the annual NCEM-UA meeting and at such other times as called for by the Chair or a majority of the NCEM-UEC membership.  Responsibilities of this committee are to:
  • Provide a clear channel for the exchange of information and advice between NCEM-UA and management.
  • Provide a formal vehicle for NCEM-UA to transmit concerns and recommendations to the NCEM Director.
  • Design and oversee the NCEM-UA User Meetings.
  • Provide advice and recommendations to the NCEM Director on how to facilitate the effective use of the NCEM-UA.
  • Nominate active users for future membership to the committee.

An administrative staff member appointed by LBNL/NCEM management shall be responsible for organizing meetings and assisting with various administrative aspects of NCEM-UA and NCEM-UEC  business. The NCEM-UEC and can have up to 5 members consisting of the Chair, Vice-Chair, a Secretary and up to 2 other members.  A maximum of  2 members can be elected by the NCEM User Association (NCEM-UA)  to serve a 2 year term.

For its inaugural session, the Chair, Vice-Chair and Secretary were appointed by NCEM's Scientific Advisory Committee (NCEM-SAC)  for a term of 2 years.  In selecting these officers, the NCEM-SAC endeavored to provide appropriate representation for the principal activities at NCEM.  In addition, they strived to have scientific and institutional diversity reflected in its officers.  Up to 2 NCEM-UEC members were elected by members of the NCEM-UA.  No more than half the members of the NCEM-UEC can be employees of the NCEM or LBNL.  At the end of the first 2 year term that the NCEM- UEC completes, a Chair, Vice-Chair and Secretary shall be appointed by outgoing UEC-Officers (from among the previously elected committee members) to serve an additional 2 year term.

Only approved NCEM-UA members who have been active users for no less than 12 months are qualified to run.  For its' inaugural year, NCEM's Scientific Advisory Committee appointed the following officers to serve a two year term on the User Executive Committee (UEC): 

Chair: Eric Stach (Purdue University);

Vice-Chair: Chiara Daraio (California Institute of Technology) 

Secretary: Seth Taylor (Northrup-Grummond).

Two more NCEM-UEC members were elected through an online ballot by official members of the NCEM User Association.
